Scholz tells Putin Germany to pay for Russian gas in euros
BERLIN, Mar 31 (PRIME) -- German companies will continue to pay for Russian gas in euros, German’s government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit told reporters late on Wednesday quoting a phone conversations between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Putin called Scholz to notify that according to the Russian legislation, sales of Russian gas to Europe must be paid in rubles from Friday.
“At the same time, Putin stressed in the conversation that nothing will change for the European contract partners. All the settlements will still be performed in euros through Gazprombank, which is not under sanctions. The bank will convert the money into rubles,” Hebestreit said.
“All the G7 agreements remain in force, energy supplies will be paid in euros and U.S. dollars in line with the contracts,” he added.
